　昭和35（1960）年に北海道で、脊髄性小児マヒ（ポリオ）が大発生しました。若き写真家、河又松次郎氏は、この病気と闘う人々を記録した写真集「小児マヒとたたかう母と子」に残しました。このサイトは、2003年8月に永眠された河又松次郎氏のご遺族の許可を得て、その貴重な写真集の全部を、皆さんにご紹介し、氏の業績とその時代の動きを、次代に残そうとするものです。

　なお、この病気は、関係者のご努力により、翌1961年、ソ連とカナダから緊急輸入された生ワクチンによって、日本から根絶されました。
　河又松次郎氏のご冥福をお祈りいたします。

In 1960, there was a big epidemic of infantile paralysis in Hokkaido Japan. The young photographer, Mr. Matsujiro Kawamata left a record of picture book, "Mothers and Children Fight against Polio". This site is to introduce the whole picture book and try to remain his contribution and the atmosphere of the era. Sadly, while the webmaster was postponing the establishment of this site, Mr. Kawamata passed away last August 2003. The permission of using the book for this site is secured from his family left. Polio was eradicated from Japan through the emergence import of oral Sabin vaccine from the Soviet Union and Canada in 1961. I mourn the death of Mr. Kawamata.
