１ マヒとたたかう母と子
小児マヒが恐ろしい病気だとはよほど前から聞いていたが「うちのこどもにかぎって・・・・・」と思っていたお母さんのこどもが,１週間後には隔離されなければならないという事実があちこちに起きている。小児マヒビールスは,どこへ飛火するか誰もわかっていない。かぜだと思っていたらたちまちマヒが起ってくる。まったく”悪魔の使徒”に見舞われたという感じだ。
They have heard that infantile paralysis is a terrible disease. Most of mothers believed "My children are exceptional." But after one week, their children have to be isolated. That kind of cases are seen many here and there. Nobody knows where the virus of infantile paralysis flies. The "cold" causes paralysis soon. It is just like attacked by "Apostle of Devil"
小児マヒのこどもを持つお母さんは「せめて幼稚園,小学校に通うまでには,ひと目につかぬ程度に……」とねがい,また死期をさまようこどもを持つお母さんは「せめて生涯不自由な体になったとしても幼い生命だけは･･･････」と,その場その場にのぞんでの最低のねがいをかけている。
The mothers of infantile paralysis children pray that they shoud recover to unvisible condition up to kindergarten or elementary school. The mothers of dying children pray that they should live even if they become handicapped. Each mother pray for the humble future.
いまこの幼いこどもたちに約束されている後遺症は，程度の差はあっても生涯に残り，呼吸マヒによって幼い生命を断ったこどもは再びお母さんの膝に帰ってこないことを思うと,小児マヒにかかったこどもも小児マヒのこどもを持つお母さんも，ともに必死にたたかわなければならないのだ。
