From a report on an interview in 1993 with Dr. Batmanghelidj on his research on the cause and cure others have missed.

Want an easy, cheap, effective way to improve your energy levels?

Fatigue? Weight problems? Asthma? Cholesterol levels? Blood pressure? Ulcers?

--------------------

The answer is so simple that no one would ever consider it. WATER.

--------------------

Dr Batmanghelidj states:

"When you take a drug with a glass of water to swallow it, the water is often doing you more good than the medication."

--------------------

Dehydration or not enough water is the crux of many disease states according to an Iranian doctor, Dr. Batmanghelidj.

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1931 and obtaining his medical degree in London, he now lives in Virginia, USA.

--------------------

1980 found him in an Iranian prison under sentence of death, a victim of Iran's political upheaval.

A fellow prisoner in great pain from a peptic ulcer was refused hospital treatment and the doctor,

remembering how water had helped his own heartburn as a medical student, gave him the only medication he had, 2 glasses of water.

The pain disappeared in 8 minutes and he prescribed 2 more glasses of water every 3 hours for his patient.

--------------------

So began the research involving 3,000 cases of ulcer patients.

While in prison he had an article published on his "water" research in the Iranian Medical Journal.

Seeing this published he was given his release from prison, but allowed to remain to complete his research.

So after 27 months prison, he did leave and his work was published in English in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology in June 1983.

WHY WATER WORKS

Stomach pain:

When there is not enough water for the pancreas to produce its own antacid to neutralize the acidity of food leaving the stomach, the sphincter muscles spasms causing pain:

ANSWER ? more water.

--------------------

喘息
Asthma:

One of the main areas of evaporation of water from the body is moisture droplets in breathed out air.

When we are dehydrated, to conserve water, the body constricts lung tissue by releasing histamine, resulting in asthma and chronic lung problems.

Water is a wonderful anti-inflammatory.

--------------------

Heart Pain:

Histamine in the lungs regulates prostaglandin's, which can also cause angina and heart attacks from constriction of the heart muscles - so lack of water again.

--------------------

Cholesterol and High Blood Pressure:

Cholesterol build up is another attempt to stave off dehydration.

It is a waxy substance used to retain moisture inside the body.

Drinking more water reduces dehydration lessening build up, leading to a reduction in blood pressure.

--------------------

Nerves and brain cells:

Neurotransmission is heavily dependent on energy from water.

Hydrolysis - the spitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen creates energy in the form of electrical charged minerals in nerve cells and floats products form the brain to nerve endings.

--------------------

CAFFEINE:

Caffeine is a dehydrating agent.

It stimulates the kidneys to get rid of water.

You should drink tea, coffee or coke as a luxury - not use it as a source of water intake.

"For every cup of caffeine-containing beverage, you should drink an additional glass of pure water to compensate for it."

We need 8 to 10 glasses of water a day - more if you drink caffeinated drinks and - more the heavier or more active you are.

--------------------

You should have a drink half an hour before a meal so that your body doesn't draw water from other organs to produce digestive juices.

Absence of thirst is not a good indicator - smelly or concentrated urine tells us we need more water, Dr, Batmanghelidj's book,
Your Body's Many Cries for Water, is worth reading.
